5 Daily Secrets You Can Use to Stop Impostor Syndrome in its Tracks

The Radical Connector Blog: 5 Daily Secrets You Can Use to Stop Impostor Syndrome in its Tracks

Self-doubt will kill more dreams than failure ever will.

Impostor syndrome is a sneaky gremlin and has an annoying tendency to pop up anytime we’re stretching out of our comfort zones or daring to do something incredible for the first time.

Would it surprise you to learn that the more successful you are, the more impostor syndrome will show up?!

Fear not … the other fab side effect of success is developing the tools to stay grounded in your confidence, capabilities, and ditch the gremlin faster than you can say, “Who do I think I am?”

Read on for my top 5 Daily Secrets You Can Use to Stop Impostor Syndrome in its Tracks!

1. Get the Impostor Syndrome Self-Talk Out of Your Head

Real talk: just because you ignore the negative self-talk doesn’t mean it’s not there. In fact, the more we ignore the internal self-doubt ...

(*ahem* I’m looking at you, ‘fake it ‘till you make it’)

... the stronger its hold on us … and the more you’re gonna beat yourself, hide, or play small.

The best thing you can do is learn to hear your self-doubt self-talk and then get that ish out of your head.

Say it out loud. Journal it. Text your biz bff. Tell your mastermind crew. Message your business coach.

Whatever outlet serves you best choose it and get that internalized toxic crapola out of your head so it stops weighing you down.

I get it, it’s scary to face our gremlins speaking their names out loud … but this isn’t Betelgeuse … your gremlin won’t get more power when you say its name out loud 3 times.

In fact, it’s quite the opposite. When you give a voice to the insecurities they lose all power over you.

Remember, impostor syndrome is a trick your ego plays on you to keep you small, safe, and in your comfort zone.

Face the scary self-doubt monster head-on and say out loud exactly what you’re feeling and why.

I promise you’ll feel so much better.

2. Read Testimonials or Your Own Content You're Particularly Proud of

Once you’ve cleared all the negative self-talk out of your head, the next thing you’ve gotta do is remind yourself how dang good you are at what you do!

Go read your favourite testimonials from happy customers.

Consume your own content (blogs, YouTube, podcasts) whether you created it or were a guest on someone else’s.

Remember that you are very good at what you do and that people are better off because you’re in their lives.

If impostor syndrome is going to trick you into thinking you’re not good … well you’re just going to have to prove it wrong and back it up with the facts!

3. Call Your Biggest Cheerleader

Now that you’ve proved impostor syndrome wrong with real facts, it’s time to bring in the reinforcements … your number one cheerleader who has so much dang belief in you they’ve got enough to lend you today, too.

Call ‘em up, tell ‘em what you need, and let the confidence love-fest begin.

Remember that when your belief in yourself is shaky, it is a-ok to lean on someone else’s belief in you.

And please don’t tell yourself you’re bad at asking for help or don’t want to be a burden to others. In case you’ve not already realized this … we’re meant to live in a community with others and that includes leaning on others for support.

It’s a long, lonely, boring life when we don’t ask others for help … and as a business owner, it’s going to slow your growth too.

Who ya gonna call when you need to borrow some belief?

4. Get into the Magic of What You Do

Once you’ve righted yourself (and sent your internal impostor syndrome gremlin packing) it’s time to get back to work doing what you do best … being magical and changing lives!

It doesn't matter if it’s paid work, a Facebook or Instagram Live, or a quick (no-charge) call to answer questions and help someone out.

Get back to work and remember that you are a badass and dayum good at what you do!

5. Recognize It As a Sign That You’re Leveling Up, Babyyy

Impostor syndrome will (almost) always pop up in your life or business the second you even think about leaving your comfort zone and levelling up.

Keeping us small is our mind's way of keeping us safe. When we play small and stay in the safety of our comfort zones there is no risk … but we suddenly move to the edge of our comfort zones and … BAM … your inner gremlin appears with a pitchfork poking your mind back into hiding.

Forget that noise!

From this day forward I want you to celebrate impostor syndrome and carry that gremlin on your shoulders in revelry (before throwing it out the window) because it means you have the guts to do something scary, to put yourself out there, and to dare to dream bigger and take action towards something incredible ... Deal?

TL;DR

Impostor syndrome has a lot to teach us … and it’s also super simple to kick it out of your head.
